Royal National Park

Located on the southern fringe of metropolitan Sydney, the Royal National Park is the second oldest national park in the world, offering spectacular scenery from sub tropical rainforests
and sandstone heathlands, to dramatic coastal cliffs and unspoilt ocean beaches. Drop into the visitors centre at Audley for helpful information and annual pass sales.

* Vehicle entry fee ($11) applies if stopping or parking any time in the national park. The park is not suitable for coaches or vehicles towing. Please use the Helensburgh/Stanwell Park exit off the F6 freeway onto Lawrence Hargrave Drive instead to rejoin the drive.

MUST SEE, MUST DO:

  • Hire a boat, canoe, kayak or mountain/aqua bike from the Historic Boatshed at Audley, enjoyed by visitors since 1893. Navigate your way along the Hacking River, through some of the most picturesque settings the park has to offer.
  • Relax in one of the many picnic areas situated on the banks of the Port Hacking River in Audley
  • Try the short walk from Bonnie Vale to the nearby Cabbage Tree Creek for canoeing or fishing (camping is available year round. Bookings essential)
  • Visit Bungoona lookout to see the sweeping views of the Port Hacking River (wheelchair accessible)
  • Marvel at the dramatic sandstone headlands plunging down to the sandy beaches from the Governor Game lookout
  • Enjoy a relaxing picnic in a rainforest setting at Red Cedar Flat, and while you’re there try one of the short walking tracks through the forest
  • Relax with a BBQ at Wattamolla or start the famous coast walk from here (also accessible from Garie, Bundenna or Otford lookout)
  • Relax at Garie, a popular surf beach also featuring a lawn area for picnics by the ocean
  • Bring your bicycles for a ride through the rainforest along the historic trail off Lady Carrington Drive
