Wollongong - Flagstaff Hill

Provides information on the discovery of the Illawarra coastline by James Cook and also the purpose of the defence canons.

Along side the new lighthouse, facing north on Flagstaff Hill are two Waterloo-vintage 64 pounder cannons. Known as Flagstaff Battery, the cannons were used to protect the harbour from feared attacks during the 1850's.
